Race Report Cadwell Round 2

Round 2 takes us to a cold and wet Cadwell Park – the test day didn’t go according to plan with the new ‘Turner Motorsport’ supplied forks going pop in the first few laps – by the end of the day we had them fixed but I got no track time for set up or tyre testing again.

Saturday was a right off with bad weather and no track time, qualifying was wet and we only had a few laps but managed 2nd on Grid and first 1000. Sunday morning Qualifying saw the weather improve a little and with more track time I got some set up – however we slipped down the ranks to 6th over all and 3rd 1000cc

Before the race it had been raining but was starting to dry – we opted for inters for the first stint thinking that that the track would dry mid session and the times would come to us – however the track dried quicker than we thought and we got caught out on a dry track – with almost everyone else on slicks we knew we would be hung out to dry. I got a good start and held 2nd for 10 or 15 minutes all the time trying to preserve the tyres as I wanted to last the full stint if possible – however it was not to be and I could not maintain a decent pace so came in early for the pit after losing 2nd place. Andy speeds of for his session banging in good and consistent times as always – Andy is about to pit when the pace car is out and we back in the game – however the race is red flagged right on Andy’s change over time, on the restart behind the pace car we have to pit on the first lap – it’s a sprint to get back out behind the car on the same lap – we miss it by 2 seconds and lose a lap, leaving us in 3rd and one lap down.

Big Thanks to Raptor Super Paint for making the bikes look Mint!

I do the best I can in my stint and we do raise to second place again – more due to a very slow pit from the 3rd place crew but my lack of bike time is starting to show and although I am fitter than ever I am not bike fit and certainly knew I had been working hard when I came it – Andy is off out again and ups his pace and sets his own personal best times and is really flying – however its not to last as his engine lets go and he has to pit un expectedly and we are not ready for the change over – once I get out the bike wont run right after a cock up in the pits so I have to stop and re set the ignition – luckily this works and I soon relax and get into my session,l riding the best I had done all weekend – not tiring and getting faster through the session – with more practice and bike time I know I could have been much stronger but still I’m doing ok considering.

We finish in 2nd place after a long hard race and weekend. We maintain 2nd place in the championship and we can only get stronger as we go – Andy has to sort his engine before the next round and then we are ready to rock an roll again!

Thanks to all who made it possible especially Kev, Karl and family.

See you at sillystone!

Andy Kickin Ass and loookin Good!
