Round 7 takes us to Donnington Park. Once again the weather is awful and New Era have changed the meeting to a One race schedule, 12 laps instead of 6 laps and extra time in qualifying.
Before Qualifying the rain stopped and made tyre choice very awkward, a dry line was forming and we rushed to get the second bike ready so we could have a choice of tyres. At the very last second we saw the dry line getting bigger and jumped on the second bike (thanks Luke!). The bike is very different from my bike and engine didn't seem to keen to rev - but the track was definatly drying and we had made the right choice. I managed to get some half cleam laps in through the traffic and knew we would be somewhere near the mark. I qualifyed 2nd behind Paul Fryer who was definatly on form and well happy with the result.
After qualifying we had all the bikes dynoed and it turned out Lukes bike was the lowest on power of all those tested and as expected it wasnt too keen to rev we definatly did well the get on the front row. Its in for a service as I type this so it'll be even faster next time!
Next there was a long wait - we were called about 5.30pm, the track was greasy and wet and the light was fading. It was hard to get motivated as we headed for the first corner, a rider from further back came flying past and went straight down causing me to nearly go with him and virtually stop to avoid him, I went into craner in about 5th place and made my way back to 2nd behind Ivan who loves the slippery conditions. I couldn't pull him in and he was comfy leading when the race was red flagged. The restart was much the same, Ivan was way to good in the conditions and I had a few slides, so I decided to just follow him in, then on the second from last lap a Flying Keith Savine charged past me like I was standing still and proceded to pull away and nearly catch Ivan- he had definatly foud his form. I crossed the line in an unhappy 3rd position.
I did however get 2nd overall as they did an agrigate time of the two starts. We threw the bike in the back of the van and charged home! Roll on snett and lets hope its a return to form and the old race format again!
