Donnington was another meeting dogged by bad weather, the morning was a hard decision for tyres as it was overcast and damp but neither wet or dry!. In the first few laps a lot of slides reminded how slippery it was. I qualifyed 3rd on the grid.
For the 1st race we had a last minute dash for the full wet tyres and just made the grid, from the start I took the whole shot, by the second lap I had a good lead but knew I couldn't relax as Matt Briggs was on the charge. It was very hard to judge the pace as I didnt want to fall while in the lead - however I didnt want to back off too much as Matty was soon catching. On the last few laps he was very close and came past me into the old hairpin - I knew I could live with the pace so wasn't too worried until we arrived at the back markers - in seeing Matt come through they all seperated and blocked me in! again!!!! I crossed the line in 2nd place - not bad but gutted because I really should have won and Matt had exteneded his lead at the top.
The second race there was no doubt that it was full wets as there was running water everywhere, I had splashed out on some new wets so was feeling confident - into the 1st corner I was pushed wide on the way in - no real problem - but when I tried to turn the bike back in I found I had no grip - this was pretty much the story of the whole race - no matter what I tried I just couldn't find the grip. I finished a lowly 5th and wasn't best chuffed with myself as I couldn't understand why i was sliding - and of course the harder I tried the worse it got!
I finished the meeting 2nd overall but Matt won the second race and the Championship is now his to lose.
I'm stilll 2nd in the championship and Snett coming quickly!
