So, this is my home round- and the phrase 'local boy' is getting used far to much for my liking. For those who dont know Snett has 2 of the longest straights of all the circuits in the country - and I'm not the smallest bloke in the world and dont much fancy my chances of staying with some of the lighter weight riders in the championship. I am also recovering from Back, ankle and Knee damage from an earlier accident.......
Anyway, some of the guys practice on the Friday whilst I'm at work - working very close to the circuit I can hear them going round but I cant see em and I cant join in the fun!!. Come race day I feel really good for a change - musta been the lack of beer the night before! I had to go home and get some bits for a friend who had fallen off so didnt bother coming back and joining the festivities.
I had tried to put some new tyres on as mine had done over 7 seven days work and were definatly looking worse for wear - unfortunatly there were none available at the circuit as the lads practicing Friday had them all! bugger, never mind though - onwards and upwards. In qualifying I rode well but didn't really get a clear lap in, I qualified a close 2nd behind Gav but new I had more to come without too much effort - especially if I could arrange some tyres.
The race started as usual, with Gav cutting through the hornets on the first few corners with me in hot pursuit. I was just starting to claw him in when he tried to over take a hornet going into Riches corner and took a big fall taking the hornet with him - it looked nasty but I saw him up and about next lap so I knew he was fine. From them on I got my head down and a few laps later I had Nick Russell chasing me down - he came past me on the 2nd from last lap so I knew I had to pull my finger out, which I did - putting in 2 fast laps and winning the race.
The second race was cancelled on the Saturday because of bad weather - good news for Gav cos he was able to get his bike back together in time for morning practice, Good news for me as I was able to get some new tyres for the race - unfortuntly for me I wasn't allowed to practice to scrub them in - while Gav got an extra practise to check his bike was OK after the fall. On Sunday race 2 rom Sat was run after the practice and I scrubbed the tyres in on the sighting lap, all seemed fine. From the start Gav and I swapped places a few times on the first lap but he didn't seem his usual self and I was able to get past and pull a lead. The race was then red flagged and Gav had again fallen behind me on some coolent (why people had coolent in the bikes we dont know!) and 6 other riders had fallen with him. From the restart I pulled away and won again!.
The next race was similar, Gav got out again and was OK but didnt seem to be on it, I think he was more interested in getting finished and salvaging some points. Win number 3 - all going well so far!
Race 4 was the same again - Gav lead for the first few laps - just as I was thinking I could feel some other CB's behind I got ready to make my move, but Gav ran wide at Sears and I was able to take advantage and pull away to win comfortably again.
I Rode well all weekend - not one slide or moment and never really felt I had to ride too hard finishing the last 3 races with time to spare. 4 Wins - 4 Fastest laps - what more did I need?? I left Snett leading the championship and looking forward to Oulton.
